Seeking help is a big step towards change and I am here to support you through it. I focus on creating a non-judgmental and safe environment in which you will feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviors. I prioritize mutual trust in order to help you set goals aiming wellness, self-actualization and healthy coping mechanisms. I personalize my approach to your needs and your level of readiness.

Experience : I am a bilingual Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I practice at Desjardins Psychotherapy under the supervision of Julie Desjardins (MA, CCC, RP #008983). I have completed a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Psychology at this same university.

I have previously worked alongside individuals and families of different backgrounds (children, youth, adults and seniors) through my role as a child protection worker. I had diverse experiences managing crises, mental health disorders, traumas and relationship difficulties.

Client Focus : I offer counselling and psychotherapy sessions to individuals aged 10 and over. ​

Types of therapy : I use a variety of therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). ​

Issues : I am specialized in trauma and PTSD. I also help individuals presenting symptoms of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, compassion fatigue, burnout, stress, grief, loss, bereavement, complex emotion regulation and difficulties with life transitions, relationships, workplace or student life.​

Emma DeNicolais is a bilingual (French and English) Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) (#15423) under the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and has completed her Master of Education (M.Ed) in Counselling of Psychology at the University of Ottawa. Under the supervision of Julie Desjardins, she will be providing mental health counselling and psychotherapy to youth (12 years old +), students and adults with a variety of issues. Based off her personal experience with counselling, she has a keen interest in guiding individuals through their anxiety (generalized, phobias, etc.), depression, student difficulties with school, and difficulties with communication.

Emma uses evidence-based strategies found in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help individuals understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. She will be continuously learning and gaining new skills and strategies from other therapeutic approaches, such as dialectal (DBT), acceptance and commitment (ACT), and others to better help her community and to support individuals based off their needs. She aims to build a strong therapeutic alliance to help individuals become the better version of themselves as well as to achieve their goals.

Julie Desjardins is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Julie specializes in helping people learn how to navigate their anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, trauma/PTSD, high-conflict separation/divorce, parenting challenges, and relationship issues. In her practice, she works with clients who want to focus on psycho-education, identifying and solving problems, and learning new strategies and tools to better cope with life’s daily stressors. She has extensive experience working with children and youth (8 years old +), students, adults, and seniors. Her approach to therapy focuses on teaching strategies from cognitive-behavioural, dialectical, acceptance and commitment, compassion and solution-focused, and mindfulness (CBT, DBT, ACT, CFT, MFBT, and SFT).
